How to Build with us

1. Talk to us about your ideas

Call us 09 4269304, email us at enquiries@hcity.co.nz, message us on Facebook or Instagram, or come and visit us at our office in Orewa.

If you already have plans, that’s great, we can proceed directly to Step 7 and organise a quote for your project.

2. Meet on Site

The shape, contour and size of your site, alongside your dreams and vision determines the final design of your new home. Helping you find the correct design solutions in order for you to realise your vision is part of our service to you.

If it is an addition or renovation to your existing home, we will meet with you there to discuss your requirements and wishes.

3. Check us Out

You will want and need to have absolute trust in your builder, so make sure we are a good fit for you. Open and honest communication is a key ingredient to the success of your build. Talk to our previous clients – we have plenty of them that would be happy to talk to you about us. We can arrange for you to visit homes that we have built too.

4. Design Brief/Concept

Discuss with us the ideas you have in mind for your new home, the must haves, the wish list, and the budget. We will help you refine these and arrange a meeting with one of our talented and creative architectural designers who will bring your vision to life on paper.

5. Developed Design

Once you are satisfied that the concept plans meet your requirements and aesthetic, then these plans are developed to include more information, including dimensions and final room sizes for your review.

6. Working Drawings

Final working drawings and compliance documents are produced, these are necessary for a building consent application, and final pricing.

If you already have your own plans, great, we can start here.

7. Quote

We prepare a quote along with a detailed set of specifications, itemising what is included, and what isn’t, tailored to reflect your requirements and the final plans as approved by you.

8. Acceptance

Upon the acceptance of the quote and specifications, you push the go button and a Master Builders building agreement is prepared by us detailing the Scope of Work. After the opportunity to receive advice from your solicitor, the agreement is signed by both parties.

9. Building Consent

The Building Consent is applied for and submitted to Auckland Council. We monitor its progress through the processing stages to ensure that any queries raised by council are addressed promptly so that the application moves through the consent process as swiftly as possible.

Whilst we are waiting for the Consent to be issued, we appoint the subtrades and suppliers for your project and develop a timetable for these trades.

We will also meet with you to discuss the decisions and product selections that you will need to make and the timing for these.

10. Commence Construction

Our favorite bit, breaking ground is an exciting day for us all !

Everything that we all have been working towards starts to take shape, literally.

We have regular site meeting with you throughout the build and go through the next steps with you. Communication is key to keeping everyone involved on top of everything.

We have meetings with the kitchen designer, the window joinery manufacturer, the electrician and the plumber to finalise the critical details of these trades.

Naturally you will want to make changes to the specifications, this is normal, everybody does this. We make sure that this is handled professionally by way of a Variation to the contract, which is in writing and authorised by you before proceeding.

11. Completion

Your new home is finished to a top quality finish and after a walk through inspection we hand over the keys to you. The house has been professionally cleaned and is ready for you to move in and set up your future in your new home.
